Buckeye Military Moms is a group that’s been around for 14 years in central Ohio helping our troops.
The moms try to go out of their way to make sure that our men and women overseas know how loved and appreciated they are. On Saturday, they held a Christmas care package event.
Buckeye Military Moms get together about three to four times a year to make care packages which go to our men and women serving overseas – many of the mothers who volunteer to make the packages have sons and daughters who are currently deployed.
Lorellei Schluter is a Buckeye Military Mom and her son Gregory is away.
“It means a lot. He’s actually sent me videos opening the packages and is very excited to see some of the things he can’t get where he’s at. He’s been away for over a year and a half and got about another year and a half to go so I only get to see him through chatting. I get to his box and decorate it for him with a message love mom,” Schluter said.
Mother’s at the event held Saturday say it’s for the sacrifices that they are making for us overseas.
The care packages that are being sent for the holidays have a taste of home adding a touch of Christmas with stockings and candy canes. Can’t forget some Halloween candy, along with toothbrushes, baby wipes, protein bars, socks and precious notes.
“These are children’s notes and again this is one of the things and their thank you back to us that they mention the most they love the notes from children many have children of their own so they are going to enjoy these they put them up on the wall,” Karen Stillwell said.
“They’re risking their lives. You don’t know who will come back. It’s very important that we take care of our military and our families,” Schluter said.
The 225 care packages will be sent out on Saturday to deployed troops around the world.
