Bond set at $50,000 for band director accused of receiving nude photos of student

Local News

NBC4 is learning more about the disturbing allegations against a local band director involving nude pictures of a minor.

Grove City Police say a former Central Crossing student and band member says when she was 17, she texted nude pictures of herself to band director Keith Hallas 2-years ago.

The former student is now 19 and says it happened in 2016.

Police escorted Hallas out of Central Crossing 30-minutes before the end of the day Thursday, the same day the former student made the allegation.

At the police department, investigators say Hallas admitted receiving what detectives refer to as “a couple” nude photos of the girl.

Another former student and band member of Hallas’ told NBC4 none of this sounds like the teacher she knew.

“There’s, you know, 2 sides to every story. There could be 3 sides to every story. 1 person, the other person and then the actual truth. So until more comes out or the actual truth does out we’ll never know,” said Kayla Seagraves.

In a written statement, a district spokesperson said “As soon as we were made aware of the charges, the district placed the teacher on administrative leave pending investigation.”

Hallas was out on a $50,000 bond the same day he first appeared in court for arraignment.

A judge ordered that he have no unsupervised visits with minors except his own 3 young children and that he not contact the former student who made the allegation.
