Body recovered from Scioto River identified as missing community activist Amber Evans

Local News

The body found in the Scioto River on Saturday has been identified as Amber N. Evans, a 28-year-old woman who had been missing since late January.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the body on Sunday.

Evans’ family has been notified, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Through the efforts of the Columbus police detectives and dive team members her body was recovered from the water in the area of the Whittier Street Peninsula on Saturday, police said.

Evans, 28, had been missing since Jan. 28 when she disappeared after a domestic dispute. She was reported missing at about 9 p.m.

Police say Evans’ vehicle was found near the Scioto Mile area after a dispute with her boyfriend.

Both the Columbus police and Franklin County Sheriff deputies had been searching for Evans since she was reported missing.

While this is not the outcome we had hoped for, we understand this brings closure for the family, and our thoughts and prayers go out to them, police said in a report released Sunday.
