The Boston Bruins won the first round series against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday and will now face the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Bruins beat the Maple Leafs 5-1 in a deciding Game 7 in the first-round series at TD Garden in Boston Tuesday night. Game 1 is at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Boston.

The Blue Jackets secured a spot in the Eastern Conference semifinals last week with a 7-3 win and a shocking four-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the NHL’s best team.

With the win over the Lightning, Columbus won a playoff series for the first time and ousted a team that had put together one of the most prolific scoring lineups ever, a team whose 68 regular-season wins tied for the most in NHL history.

The Blue Jackets and Bruins have played three times this season, all within the past six weeks.

Since closing out the Lightning, the Blue Jackets held a public team practice on Monday at Nationwide Arena that was attended by more than 5,500 fans.

Blue Jackets players and coach John Tortorella said on Tuesday the team was ready to play either the Bruins or the Maple Leafs.
