Bill Russell, the people’s champion who founded Firefighters for Kids, was laid to rest on Saturday, May 11.
His son, William Thomas Russell III said, “My dad was a people’s champ. He loved giving back to the community. This right here is basically a reflection of him. He just loved helping people.”
Bill Russell’s friend and co-worker, Mike Mullins, concurred. “[He was] the kind of person that any of us would want to call a friend. There’s a lot of kids around here that did get help, basically because of him. Just the fact of them not having anything bothered him.”
He was called “the salt shaker to bless somebody’s life,” during this moving tribute.
