A Columbus City School principal who applied to be the district’s next superintendent is charged with soliciting sex from an undercover officer online.
A spokesperson with the district say Dr. Leon Leavell, principal at Arts IMPACT Middle School, has been assigned to paid leave away from the school, where he is not working with students.
According to court records, on March 24th, Leavell responded to an ad on the dating section of “Backpage” published by an undercover Columbus detective.
Records show that Leavell, communicating through phone and text, arranged to meet at a hotel where he would pay $40 in exchange for sex. Once he arrived at the East Columbus hotel he was arrested by Columbus VICE officers.
“It is alarming when you think about it. I think it is just as important for us to research a school as well as who is in the school,” said parent Demekia Hill.
According to Leavell’s LinkedIn page, he’s been affiliated with Columbus City Schools since 1999.
