Baby girl attacked by dog in Mount Vernon

Local News

MOUNT VERNON, OH (WCMH) – A 10-month-old baby girl is in the hospital after the family dog attacked her.

Police say the family dog attacked the child just before 10am Monday at a home on Jackson St.  Julie Gough lives two doors down from where the attack happened.

“I do not trust dogs. dogs can turn on you any second,” said Gough

Gough is a mother of four with one on the way. She stays two doors down where the dog attacked the child.  She said she’s seen the dog and would never ever let any of her children around it.

“When I went in the house it just kind of jumps all over you. And I came home and told my mom, ‘I’m worried about that baby,’” said Gough.

She says she is sad her suspicions were right. Crews took the girl to a nearby hospital and transferred her to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

Neighbor Marsha Gibson also wishes the child well.

“It’s terrible that it was a child. I hope she comes out okay. I hope she’s alright and she is in my prayers,” said Gibson.

Police still are investigating this case.  They aren’t releasing the breed of the dog at the moment.
The dog is in quarantine at the moment.
