Officials say arson is suspected in a fire at a vacant building in Marion, Thursday.

The Marion City Fire Department responded to a fire at a vacant commercial structure located at 178 N State St on Thursday evening at approximately 8:45p.m.

Due to thick smoke, the State Street overpass was briefly shut down by Marion police at the intersection of State Street and Center Street.

With the help of Marion Township Fire, they were able to extinguish the flames, but according to Marion City Fire Department Chief Chuck Deem, the building is considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but arson is suspected.

Anyone with any information about this incident should call the Marion Police Department at 740-387-2525.
