COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Gyms across Central Ohio are seeing an influx in clientele as the 2019 Arnold Sports Festival approaches.

At the Powerhouse Gym, just blocks from the Greater Columbus Convention Center, athletes from around the world were training on Wednesday.

The gym offers special rates for the competitors.

“It’s a huge help to all of us athletes,” said Luke Sandoe, a bodybuilder from England. “That’s one of the nice things about bodybuilding is that there’s a lot of people that very much like to help each other out.”

Matt Catalogna, the owner of Powerhouse Gym, said the money made during the weekend of the Arnold Sports Festival amounts to nearly half of the gym’s annual revenue.

“It takes almost all year to prepare for,” he said. “It puts food on the table, let’s just say that. This is actually our business.”

The Arnold Sports Festival begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday. For a schedule of events, click or tap here.
