Columbus Police say an argument over a Bird scooter rental led to a teenage boy being shot multiple times in north Columbus.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of East 20th Avenue just after 4:30pm on the report of a shooting. They found a 15-year-old boy with two gunshot wounds to the abdomen, one gunshot wound to the hip and one gunshot wound to the thigh.

The victim was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. Detectives were able to interview the victim’s companion who said the pair were attempting to rent a Bird scooter in the area of East 18th and Gladstone Avenues when an unknown male told them that particular scooter had already been rented. The victim and his companion left, walking away from the area.

A few minutes later, a silver sedan drove by the pair, and the same man who argued with them opened fire.

Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to contact Columbus Police Assault Detective Deryl Kowalski at 614-645-4189 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477).
