All-clear given after suspicious package reported near Newark PD

NEWARK, OH (WCMH) — The Columbus Bomb Squad has cleared the scene near Newark Police Department after a suspicious package was reported earlier in the day.

According to the Newark Fire Department, at about 6:30am, Thursday, officers with the Newark Police Department reported a suspicious briefcase outside the building located at 39 4th Street.

The Columbus Bomb Squad was called to investigate and determined the briefcase was left there because someone had found it and wanted to return the lost item. 

4th Street was closed between Main and Walnut streets while the Columbus Bomb Squad investigated, but it has since reopened.
