A closer look at acting Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Ryan Day will assume interim head coach duties for the Buckeyes as the begin training camp Friday.  

Head coach Urban Meyer has been placed on administrative leave as the university looks into what he may have known about abuse allegations against former receivers coach Zach Smith. 

Day joined the Ohio State coaching staff before the 2017 season as the quarterbacks coach and during this offseason Day was promoted to co-Offensive Coordinator. He was coveted for several college head coaching and several NFL assistant coaching jobs but elected to stay at OSU. 

Day’s offense in 2017 was 5th in the nation in passing efficiency, 6th in scoring and 8th in total offense.  

Day previously served as a graduate assistant under Urban Meyer at Florida in 2005. 

His other coaching stops include Boston College, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Temple and New Hampshire. Day was born and raised in New Hampshire and graduated from New Hampshire. Day and his wife, Christina, have three children.
