A 9-year-old boy was transported to Children’s Hospital in stable condition after he and a rabbit were shot Friday night in the 3000 block of Azelda Street after he found the rabbit, according to police.

The victim, Acen Hay, was inside a home at 3027 Azelda Street with Destiny Kovalchik, 17, when it was “shot up” from the outside, according to police.

Kovalchik was reportedly getting the rabbit from Acen when Acen was shot in the lower back. The rabbit was being held by Kovalchick and was struck by a bullet, according to police. The rabbit lost a paw, police said.

Acen is expected to make a full recovery. Kovalchik was not taken to the hospital, according to police.
