One person has died after an officer-involved shooting on Sunday in eastern Ohio.

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office has not identified the 73-year-old man who was shot and killed at a home on May 6, but Sheriff Jeffrey Paden’s office said deputies responded with deadly gunfire after the man pointed a firearm at them through a screen window.

Deputies were called out to the Fairview residence in the afternoon to take the man to a hospital by doctor’s orders. Officials said the man was making threats to harm himself.

Deputies said the man would not come out of his home. After an hour of talking, the man pointed his weapon at police. Deputies shot back, killing the victim.

No deputies were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.
