1 person killed in W. Broad Street crash

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are investigating a deadly crash in west Columbus.  

Police say a head-on crash was reported in the area of W. Broad Street and Lechner Avenue, at about 10:53 a.m., Wednesday. 

According to police, Desmond Brown, 44, of Columbus, was driving east on West Broad Street while at the same time, an unidentified man was driving in the opposite direction.

For an unknown reason, the man crossed over the center lane and into the eastbound lanes, striking Brown’s vehicle head-on.

The unidentified man was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, but was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived.

West Broad Street was closed while police investigated, but has since reopened.

This is the 45th traffic fatality in Columbus for 2021.
