1 dead in Whitehall house fire

A 38-year-old bedridden woman was found dead inside of a duplex after a fire was reported at a home on Doney Street in Whitehall.

A passerby discovered the blaze that started in a bedroom at about 4:36 p.m. at 4135 Doney St. and called for help, officials said. 

A mother and daughter live in the home, which had oxygen tanks and generators inside. Officials say the daughter died in the blaze.

More than a dozen firefighters are on the scene and the fire has been contained, officials said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Doney Street is shut down between Beechcreek and Beechrun due to the fire, officials said.

Motorists should find an alternate route and avoid the area, officials said.
