1 dead, 1 injured after chain-reaction crash shut down I-71 NB for hours

One person is dead and another is injured after a three-vehicle, chain-reaction crash on Interstate 71 forced officials to shut down the highway for nearly three hours.

The ramp at Interstate 670 at I-71 was also closed at the time of the crash, officials said.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. Friday. on I-71 near Hudson Street when a vehicle swerved and struck Angela McDaniel’s car and caused McDaniel’s car to strike the vehicle parked in front of her that was occupied by Adam G. Medley.

McDaniel was taken to Riverside Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

Adam G. Medley, who was in the driver’s seat of the other vehicle parked on the shoulder in front of McDaniel, was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Authorities cleared the scene and reopened the highway just before 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
