COLUMBUS (WCMH) — A Franklin County jury has recommended that Kristofer Deshan Garrett be put to death for the murders of his ex-girlfriend and their four-year-old daughter.

Garrett, 26, was found guilty last week of the January 2018 double murder of Nicole Duckson, 34, and their daughter, Christina, at a home on Fleet Road in southeast Columb

The jury recommended Garrett face life in prison with no parole for the murder of Nicole Duckson and the death penalty for the murder of Christina.

Judge Chris Brown will make the final decision on sentencing at a later date.

Clifton Duckson, the father and grandfather of the victims, said it has been a long 19 months getting to this point.

“Justice was served but nobody wins today,” Duckson said after the verdicts were announced. “The young fella’s only 26 years old. He loses his life and I lost two people – so actually nobody wins today.”

Garrett waited at Duckson’s home, brutally stabbing her and the little girl. The victims’ bodies were found in the backyard of the house.  Garrett was arrested later that night, according to court documents.

This is the first death penalty verdict in Franklin County since 2012.

A death sentence was last imposed in Franklin County in May of 2012 when Caron E. Montgomery was sentenced to death for the stabbing deaths of his former girlfriend Tia Hendricks, their 2-year-old son, and her 10-year-old daughter, according to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien.
