Rodent infestation forces Family Dollar store to close

Up to Code

Rodent infestation forced the Columbus Public Health Department to close the Family Dollar store Monday at Great Southern Shopping Center, 3779 S. High St.

Pictures provided to NBC 4 Investigator Tom Sussi show shelves and floors peppered with mouse droppings. You can also see where the rodents gnawed at bags of food and candy.

The health department said the business will remain closed until it passes an inspection and proves the mice are under control.

No word tonight from the Family Dollar Store’s corporate office.

It’s not the first time the store has had issues with rodents, Sussi said.

During a March 9 inspection, inspectors eyeballed mouse droppings near powdered gravy, cookies and packaged potatoes.

The recipient of this week’s coveted NBC 4 Up To Code Award is New Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant, 2775 Martin Road in Dublin.
