Columbus Police vice unit accused of extortion, selective enforcement, entrapment

Investigates

The Columbus Division of Police Chief has it.

The mayor has it.

The city attorney has it.

And now, the feds have it.

Earlier this month, an insider with Ohio’s strip bar industry provided city officials with a large packet of information.

Accusations against the vice unit include claims like extortion, selective enforcement and entrapment, NBC 4 Investigator Tom Sussi has learned.

The whistleblower told Sussi he’s been digging into the city’s vice unit for nearly a year and has evidence to prove his allegations. He said he’s been contacted by the FBI and plans to cooperate fully.

Columbus Police officials said on Thursday that the FBI’s Public Corruption Task Force has taken over the investigation, just a few weeks after Police Chief Kim Jacobs told the media that the Unit was under a four-week review.

The FBI didn’t return Sussi’s calls regarding the report, but Robin Davis, a spokeswoman for Mayor Andy Ginther, said “the Mayor’s office did receive (the) information,” and “it has been made available” to the task force.

The task force is also investigating the Stormy Daniels’ case.

The vice unit arrested the adult film star July 12 during a show at Siren’s Gentlemen’s Club. VICE cops accused Daniels of touching them. All charges were dropped.

There’s also the Donna Castleberry case.

On August 23, vice cop, Andrew Mitchell, shot and killed Castleberry, 23, during a prostitution sting. Police said Castleberry pulled a knife, and stabbed Mitchell in the hand.

This week, Mitchell was ordered to turn in his badge and gun. Pending the outcome of this investigation, he will only do administrative work.

The task force has set up a tip line. If you have information the feds should know about, call 614-849-1777.
