Complaints about land lords seem to be one of the more popular complaints into Better Call Jackson.  The city of Columbus is taking an aggressive approach to the so-called, ‘absentee landlords’.

People who own several properties under different names are now in the target of PACE, or proactive code enforcement.  Unlike regular code enforcement officers, who respond to complaints, the pace team goes after repeat offenders and longtime vacant properties.

Most recently, the PACE team worked with the City Attorney’s office to hold one local property owner responsible. With more than 30 properties in violation with city code, that landlord was sentenced to 178 days in jail and a slew of fines.

Assistant administrator of code enforcement, Heather Truesdell says, a drastic measure like jail time gets the attention of landlords.
