History was made Friday at Grove City United Methodist Church for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Ahmed Shukri was among 27 cadets to graduate and is the department’s first Somali deputy.

Shukri, who has lived in Columbus for 15 years, first asked a deputy about working in law enforcement at an Ohio State football game.

The deputy encouraged him to apply and today he became a deputy along with the other cadets. He will work in corrections.
