COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Columbus police and the Franklin County DUI Task Force will operate a combined four sobriety checkpoints Friday night into Saturday morning.

The task force will operate both checkpoints tonight between 8pm and 2am on Alum Creek Drive south of Williams Road and north Interstate 270 in the village of Obetz.

Columbus police is also conducting checkpoints The first will be operated on E. 5th Ave. west of Leonard Ave. in South Linden from 9-11 p.m. The second will be operated on E. 11th Ave. and Clara Ave. near the University District from 1-3 a.m. Saturday morning.

The checkpoints serve as a highly visible piece of the OVI enforcement strategy. While the locations of the checkpoints are announced in advance, they are often held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols.

Sobriety checkpoints are legal in Ohio as long as public notice is given that the checkpoint will be established.

The results from the checkpoints will be announced on Saturday morning.
