COLUMBUS (WCMH) — The man was indicted on charges he stole more than $50,000 worth of coins and jewelry from the 91-year-old man from Georgia.

According to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, Christopher David Welch, 38, was an employee with Mr. Mover in Columbus, and was contracted to move the 91-year-old man from Savannah, Georgia to Lewis Center, Ohio between April 20 and 26.

O’Brien says after the move, the victim noticed some of his gold jewelry and gold coins were missing.

After police reports were filed, it was discovered Welch was selling jewelry and coins at Buckeye Gold Stores in the Columbus area, according to O’Brien.

Police found more of the victim’s missing jewelry and coins at Welch’s residence, after a search warrant was executed on his home.

Welch was indicted on one count of theft from a person in a protected class.

“This was an entrusted moving company employee who abused his position for his own personal gain by stealing valuable and sentimental jewelry and coins from an unsuspecting 91 year old man,” said O’Brien.

There is currently an active arrest warrant for Welch. What others are clicking on:
