BOULDER, CO (WCMH) – It took some extensive planning, but a new dad suffering from an aggressive form of brain cancer was able to see the birth of his son.

Cagney Wenk, 26, was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma – an aggressive form of cancer in his brain – just three weeks before his fianceé, Jessica Li, was due to give birth to their baby boy, Today reported.

Wenk was still recovering from brain surgery when the day came. Staff from the Boulder Community Hospital wheeled him into the delivery room, along with his nurse and all of his ICU equipment.

Through the organization ‘Now I lay me down to sleep,’ birth and maternity photographer Sarah Boccolucci volunteered to take photos of the baby boy’s first moments.

She told CNN she was moved by Wenk’s overwhelming happiness.

“He was just so joyful and excited and clearly so in love with Jessica. It was really striking,” Boccolucci said.

“Cagney was talking to his son. Telling him what he’s going to teach him and all the experiences they’re going to have. It was just really moving,” Boccoluci said to CNN.

“I was honored to provide them this service and offered birth photographer instead of just pictures after the baby was born,” Boccolucci told TODAY Parents. In addition to photographing the birth, she produced a video of the birth for the family.

Baby Levon Robbie Wenk was born at 2:12 AM, Cagney was even able to cut the cord. “The atmosphere in the room was serene and joyful. The hospital staff and their family were amazing and the room was filled with love and support,” said Boccolucci.
