Elderly couple found holding each other after mobile home explosion

STEWART, TN (WCMH) – An elderly couple was killed in a mobile home explosion Monday in Tennessee.

WKRN reported it happened around 10:45pm Monday in Stewart, Tennessee.

Witnesses reported seeing the mobile home explode, then catch fire.

The couple’s son told WSMV that his father ran into the home to rescue his wife, but became trapped.

“They got the fire out, went in there and looked for them. They found them together in the kitchen, momma and him with the oxygen tank. He tried to get her out, didn’t make it,” said Bart Stephenson.

WTVF reported the blast killed Dorris and Dot Stephenson. Firefighters found their bodies holding each other.

Hardin said the female victim used supplemental oxygen to breathe and had approximately 10 oxygen tanks inside the mobile home at the time of the explosion. Some of those tanks had been delivered earlier in the day on Monday.

An oxygen generator was also in the home, according to the chief.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.
