Delaware County Humane Society dogs give thanks

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Dogs at the Delaware County Humane Society have something to be thankful for today: They have all found foster homes for Thanksgiving. The shelter was looking for families to take these pups in, and today all of the kennels at the shelter are empty.

Rachelle Pace-Bowen and her family have a full house for Thanksgiving, but she is making room for one more: Princess, a 14-month-old boxer mix. This pup has a lot to be thankful for and is reuniting with the family that rescued her.

“I got a phone call on Sept. 11 that there was a stray dog in Whitehall,” Pace-Bowen said. “The next morning, I went over and picked her up.”

Princess is now living at the Delaware County Humane Society, and Pace-Bowen didn’t want her to spend this Thanksgiving alone. She’s fostering Princess for the day, because no one wants to be alone on the holiday.

“I feel like they can’t speak for themselves, so you have to kind of stand up for them and do what you can to help them because they can’t help themselves,” Pace-Bowen said.

Princess isn’t the only dog giving thanks. The shelter has found foster homes for all 19 of their dogs for the holiday.

“On their Facebook page, I knew that they were looking for fosters for the dogs so I offered to take Princess for Thanksgiving, and I was really happy when she called and said I could take her,” Pace-Bowen said.

Like all of the dogs at the shelter, Princess is looking for a forever home. Maybe you can spread some love this holiday season.

“She’s amazing,” Pace-Bowen said. “I’ve never had a dog that would just trust somebody after whatever she’s been through because we don’t know her history. Maybe she was just lost. We don’t know, but she’s just so trusting and so loving to everybody. It’s really amazing.”

All of the dogs will be back at the shelter when the holiday is over.
