Suspect in Thanksgiving Day shooting arrested in Florida

A suspect wanted for shooting a family of three on Thanksgiving Day in Northeast El Paso, has been arrested in Florida, El Paso Police said.

The suspect, who was wanted for murder and attempted murder, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Police have not confirmed the name of the suspect. However, the Daytona Beach News-Journal identified him as Jason A. Gibson. The paper reports Gibson was arrested following a brief chase Tuesday afternoon.

Several law enforcement cars chased Gibson into a parking lot, where he crashed a stolen vehicle and then ran on foot. He was caught by marshals, the paper reported.

The paper added that Gibson is wanted in New Mexico for an alleged kidnapping.

Two others were in the car, but Florida police did not give any more information on them, the News-Journal reported.

On Monday, police said that the El Paso shooting was the result of a home invasion.

Juan Salas, 58, was shot and killed at the scene, while Lorenza Salas, 58, and Johnathon Salas, 24, were shot and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The shooting happened in the 8300 block of Signal Peak.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.

“On Thanksgiving day while most families give thanks unfortunately this family lost a great father and husband and left a mother and son fighting for their life in ICU,” the post reads. “If you could help with anything it will be truly appreciated.”
