Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man suspected of stealing mail from a condominium complex and using the recipients’ personal information steal thousands of dollars.
According to police, the thefts happened during the month of April at a Worthington-area condominium complex. The man allegedly stole pre-screened credit card offers from the mailboxes and used the victims’ personal information to apply for credit cards. Investigators say the man then intercepted the newly opened credit cards when they arrived in the mail.
The suspect used five different cards in various victims’ names to buy approximately $20,000 in pre-paid gift cards. Investigators say the man used the cards in multiple cities and counties in northern Ohio, mostly at Target and Giant Eagle stores.
