CRIME OF THE WEEK: Mail carrier tips police off to double murder scene

Crime

It’s been more than a year and a half after a postal worker tipped police off to a murder scene in South Linden, and police are still searching for suspects.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 27, 2017, a U.S. postal carrier was making deliveries in the neighborhood when he noticed something wasn’t right at a home on the 1000 block of East 19th Avenue. The postal carrier called police when he saw evidence of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Donte Moorer and his girlfriend, Janelle Reese, shot to death inside the home.

Investigators say Reese was on the phone with someone the night before the bodies were found when a disturbance started.

“We’ve been able to determine they’d been shot the night before around 10 or 11 o’clock,” Bill Taylor with Central Ohio Crime Stoppers said. “Some gunfire had been apparently heard over the telephone or something of that nature.”

Police say there’s nothing in either Moorer or Reese’s backgrounds that should have led to such a violent end for the couple.

“Both these individuals, Donte and Janelle, had many friends,” Taylor said. “They were very well liked in the community.”

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the suspect(s) responsible for this double murder. Anyone with information or anyone who may have heard gunfire in the area that night is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477).
