CRIME OF THE WEEK: Cash reward offered for info in east Columbus deadly shooting case

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — It’s been three months since an 18-year-old was found shot to death in a parking lot in east Columbus and a cash reward could be yours if you have information that leads to an arrest in the case.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 16, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to a parking lot behind 1551 Bryden Road on the report of a man lying in the parking lot. When they arrived, officers found Jamareil Caldwell unresponsive. He had sustained a gunshot wound. According to officials, medics pronounced Caldwell dead at 2:45 a.m.

Investigators say multiple gunshots had been reported in the area of Fairwood Avenue and Kent Street around 2:23 a.m. and that Caldwell was with an acquaintance in that area when he was shot. The acquaintance drove Caldwell to the back of the West Bexley Apartments, where then he called police.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person(s) responsible for Caldwell’s death. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477). You can also submit a tip online at or through the free P3 Tip app, available for iOS and Android devices.
