Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man who broke into a west Columbus home last month while the homeowner was sleeping.

It happened in the early morning hours of April 21 at a home on Highcreek Drive. According to Columbus Police, the man took the garage door control from the victim’s unlocked car and entered the home through the garage around 5:44am. Security video shows the man tip-toeing around the home as the victim sleeps, stealing numerous items before leaving the scene.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers President Kristen McKinley said the incident is a good reminder for citizens to lock their vehicles, especially if they have a garage door opener in their car.

“If somebody gains access through the garage door, that door to the house is usually right there by the front door, so it’s easy enough to reach in, grab the stuff and be gone before you know it, especially if you’re upstairs or in another room,” McKinley said.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest or indictment of the man responsible for the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(8477). You can also submit a tip online at or through the free P3 Tips mobile application, available for iOS and Android devices. All tips are anonymous.
