(WCMH)– In an effort to increase staff knowledge of food safety, Chipotle will be closing all of its stores for a few hours on February 8.
According to CNN Money, the move comes after Chipotle suffered several E. coli, salmonella and norovirus outbreaks that caused hundreds of customers to become sick. In one instance, about 140 students at Boston College were infected with norovirus, and in October and November, 53 people were affected by an E. coli outbreak in nine states.
The closures, along with a new marketing campaign, is an effort to lure back customers, Chipotle CEO Steve Ellis told CNN Money.
According to a spokesperson with Chipotle, there hasn’t been an E.coli case in two months at its more than 1,900 restaurants.
