WILBERFORCE, Ohio (WDTN) – Greene County Sheriff’s deputies and Central State University officials say the lockdown on Central State’s campus has been lifted. It took affect just before 9:00 p.m. Monday and was lifted about three hours later.
Wilberforce University also lifted it’s lockdown after several hours. The two universities are less than a mile apart just outside Xenia.
On Monday night Central State issued this tweet:
Around 12:00 a.m. Tuesday, Central State University officials sent out this statement to the media:Thank you to the University’s Campus Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Wilberforce University Police and Kettering Police’s canine unit for their quick response. The safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance to the University.
Around 8:30 pm today, the University received a report of an armed robbery in one of the University’s buildings. While investigating, officers heard a gunshot. Central State and Wilberforce University campuses were immediately placed on lock down. One female student was wounded. She has been transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is in stable condition. After a search of the nearby woods, a weapon was recovered.
No one else on campus was injured. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Central State University Campus Police are continuing the investigation. At this point, the campus lockdown has been lifted.
All the activity centered around a co-ed dorm. A witness on scene says she saw a female being carried out on a stretcher and crying. Our crews saw another woman being placed in the back of a cruiser.
