CHARLOTTE HALL., MD (WCMH) — A rodent declared its own war on Christmas in Maryland this week, according to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office was called to a dollar store on Monday after a beaver got in and started damaging some merchandise.

The mammal may have just been shopping for a good bargain, but photos show it made a bit of a mess in the process.

The sheriff’s office said it “attempted to flee the area,” but animal control arrived and safely captured the beaver before releasing it to a wildlife rehabilitator.

“As a law enforcement officer, you just never know what your next call may be…” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
