VILNIUS, LITHUANIA (NBC) – In a test of their crawling skills, 25 toddlers took part Saturday in Lithuania’s annual baby racing contest.
The event has become something of a spectator sport since it was first staged 20 years ago.
Aged between 7 months and 1 year old, the babies competed in heats along a 16-foot carpeted track.
At the finish line, parents lured them by flashing items such as TV remotes, cookies, animal toys and every kids’ favorite… the cell phone.
Several toddlers lost ground following early leads after sitting down near the finish line to look around. Other babies were too scared to crawl across from all the surrounding commotion.
