(WCMH) — Torrent Pharmaceuticals is expanding its voluntary recall of certain blood pressure medications over trace amounts of a cancer-causing chemical.

Torrent is only recalling lots of losartan-containing medication containing NDEA above the interim acceptable intake limits of 0.27 parts per million (ppm).

The FDA also updated the list of losartan medications under recall. There is also a list of medications not under recall.

The recall is the latest in a series of recalls that started in July over what the FDA describes as ‘unacceptable’ amounts of N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA).

According to the National Institutes of Health, NDEA is a suspected human and animal carcinogen that is used in gasoline as a stabilizer for industry materials and as a lubricant additive, according to the National Institutes of Health.

The FDA says patients taking any recalled ARB should continue taking their current medicine until their pharmacist provides a replacement or their doctor prescribes a different medication that treats the same condition. Some ARBs contain no NDMA or NDEA.
