Charges filed after Ohio dog dies of heat stroke

Officers responded Friday to a report that a dog was left outside without water

NILES, OH (WKBN) - Charges were filed Monday morning after a dog was found dead due to a heat stroke on Friday. 

The owner of the dog, 37-year-old Johnnie B. Murray, Jr. of Niles, has been charged with felony cruelty to animals, according to Niles Police Department.

According to a Facebook post by the Niles Police Department, officers responded Friday to a report that a dog was left outside without water or shelter from the sun/heat. By the time officers arrived, the dog had passed away.

Police say tests from a local veterinary hospital confirmed that the dog died from a heat stroke. 

Murray turned himself in to police on Monday. He appeared in court on Monday, and a $50,000 bond was set.
