Friday Freebies: Celebrate fall with a Harry Potter scavenger hunt, corn mazes and more

It’s fall, y’all!

Okay, we’re still a day shy of autumn, but on Saturday fall will be here, and there’s plenty of inexpensive fun happening this weekend to help you ring in the season.

Friday and Saturday:

Delaware County Fair

Celebrate fall and enjoy the last two days of the Delaware County Fair this Friday and Saturday. Catch the chainsaw carving competition and the trailer races Friday night and don’t miss the demolition derby Saturday night. Admission to the fairgrounds is just $6 for everyone over age 9, and veterans and active military get in free with a valid military ID on Friday.

Jackson Apple Festival

Feeling up for a day or weekend trip? Head down to Jackson County for the 78th annual Jackson Apple Festival. Check out the apple pie contest, see some live music, visit the car show and much more.

Powell Oktoberfest

Prost! Celebrate the changing of the season and central Ohio’s German roots on Powell’s Village Green at the Powell Oktoberfest celebration. Friday night includes a tasting event for those 21 and over with local food, craft beer and wine. Tickets for the tasting event are $40 per person at the door and includes four samples of any craft beer or wine with one full pour of your choice and food from Local Roots, Liberty Tavern, Gallo’s Tap Room, Lazy Chameleon, City Barbeque, Shorty’s Bridgewater and Koble. On Saturday, the entire event is free and for all ages and will feature bounce houses, live music, a yodeling contest and much more.

Friday:

The House on Haunted Hill at Greenlawn Abbey

Nothing says fall like a creepy movie at a mausoleum, am I right? Head over to Greenlawn Abbey Friday night for a screening of The House on Haunted Hill under the stars. There will be cartoons and short films at dusk, and the movie will start at 8pm. Admission is just $5 per person and all money goes to fund the restoration of the historic abbey.

Saturday:

Creekside Hops & Vines Fest

Welcome the new season the right way at the fifth annual Creekside Hops & Vines Fest. Central Ohio’s best breweries, wineries and distilleries will be on hand as well as Local Cantina (free tacos!), Barrel and Boar and more. Admission is $55 and includes 16 tasting tickets and free food from local restaurants. If you’re not drinking but are going with someone who is, you can snag a designated driver ticket for just $30.

Destination Downtown Lancaster Fall Festival

Enjoy the charm of historic downtown Lancaster and ring in the new season with their annual Fall Festival! The event is free and there are tons of things to do, including family-friendly crafts, bobbing for apples, hayrides, live music, beer and food trucks, and they’ll even have the OSU game on the big screen!

Harvest Fair at Stratford Ecological Center

Celebrate the harvest at one of the biggest events at the Stratford Ecological Center! This family-friendly event is awesome for kids (and adults) of all ages and will feature face painting, hiking, tractors, chicken feeding, live music and more.

Harry Potter and the Uptown Hunt

If you’ve ever wished you could go to Hogwarts, this is your chance! Uptown Westerville will transform into Diagon Alley Saturday afternoon with a special scavenger hunt. Find the wand that chooses you, get your pet from the Magical Menagerie and collect your books before taking the Hogwarts Express to the Sorting Hat! There will also be classes like Divination and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Make sure you pay attention though so you can pass your OWLs and get your very own wizard hat.

Saturday and Sunday:

Fall Fun at Lehner’s

Grad the kids and head over to Lehner’s Pumpkin Farm for the Fall Fun days! Every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 28, Lehner’s will have more than 30 rides and attractions for everyone, including a corn maze, barnyard golf, barrel rides and more. Admission is $9 for kids ages 3 to 17 and $7 for adults.

Freeman’s Farm Fall Festival

Take a hayride through scenic woods, eat a campfire-roasted hot dog, make a scarecrow, and more a the opening weekend of Freeman’s Farm Fall Festival. Beginning Saturday and continuing every weekend until Oct. 28, this family-friendly fall tradition is a central Ohio favorite. Admission is free, but there is a charge for food, some of the activities and items purchased at the market.
