Meteorologist Joe Speir joined Storm Team 4 in April 2023.
Before coming to central Ohio, Joe worked all over the Southeast. He started his career in Macon, Georgia, in 2020, then spent some time forecasting the weather in Columbia, South Carolina. While he will miss the warmer temperatures, Joe is glad to be closer to home.
A Pennsylvania native, Joe grew up in a small town called Glenville in the south central part of the state. While in Pennsylvania, he loved to play in the school bands and was a part of the varsity swimming team.
Joe’s passion for weather started with Hurricane Isabel in 2003. When the remnants of Isabel made their way to Pennsylvania, they knocked over a tree where his parents had built him a swing. It gave Joe a solid appreciation for the power and impact of the weather that he carried through high school and into college.
He graduated from Penn State University in 2020 with a degree in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science, focusing on weather forecasting and communication. Even in the Buckeye State, he doesn’t shy away from being a vocal Nittany Lion!
When Joe is not in the newsroom or the Storm Team 4 weather center, you will find him checking out local outdoor trails, coffee shops, or the best places to eat in town.
