Spring storms raises our severe weather threat Friday afternoon and evening

Warm air and rising humidity will fuel spring storms

COLUMBUS (WCMH) - A few bands of showers and gusty thunderstorms will arrive late Friday afternoon and move through the region by early evening ahead of a slow-moving cold front.

A sluggish storm system will feed plenty of warm, moist air into the Ohio Valley through Friday. a zone of active weather will spread east across northern Ohio Friday afternoon and sag south by evening. We will remain in a "marginal" threat for severe weather, elevated to a "slight" risk for eastern Ohio.

The greatest opportunity for strong storms will be in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

The threat of damaging wind gusts increases as the ingredients come together across the Ohio Valley ahead of a cold front that will bring improving weather in time for the start of the weekend. Daytime heating will contribute to building instability, which will be offset by increasing cloud cover. Highs will reach the low 80s Friday, falling back to the 70s over the weekend--still above normal for early May.
