COLUMBUS, Ohio - All eyes are on Columbus this week as the delegation from the Democratic National Convention pays a visit to Ohio's capital city.

Columbus is the second of five stops on the group's tour as they prepare to select a host city ahead of the 2016 election.

Officials with the DNC will be taking a close look at Columbus Wednesday and Thursday.

The delegation was in Birmingham, Ala. Last month for a two-day visit, and will visit New York, Philadelphia, and Phoenix, which are also under consideration.

Some Democrat insiders said Philadelphia and Columbus are the top contenders.

While the delegation is in Columbus, they will check out logistical needs for the convention, such as hotels, arenas, and convention centers – all to host approximately 40,000 guests.

Experience Columbus CEO Brian Ross is a member of the team that will help show the delegation around the city.

Ross said Columbus is ready to roll out the red carpet.

First up, Columbus has to prove to the DNC that the city has the basics covered.

"They want to make sure that our physical capabilities meet their needs, so hotel space, flights in and out of the city, the convention center, Nationwide Arena, all of which we are confident we can meet their expectations," Ross said.

The delegation will be met with a warm reception including a rally Wednesday morning in the Arena District.

The city will show off the hotels, like the brand new Hilton, and hotels under construction in the Short North.

City leaders will talk about the construction along the riverfront, the Scioto Peninsula, transportation and logistics that make the city easy to navigate.

Officials will also demonstrate how business, government, and hospitality leaders work together.

"I would say the best part of our pitch is our community and the collaboration that we are going to provide to make sure they have the absolute best delegate experience," Ross said.

That means the delegation will have the VIP experience. They'll be taken to the best restaurants, put up in the most lavish accommodations, and escorted through the city's trendiest neighborhoods.

But Ross said he's confident of the Columbus ground game.

"In our industry and what we do for a living, when we can get professional meeting planners, visitors in general, to actually come and experience our destination, they come back and they bring their meetings here," Ross said.

The New York visit will occur on Aug. 11 and 12, and then Philadelphia. The last stop on the tour is Phoenix on Sept. 10 and 11.
