COLUMBUS, Ohio -

The Ohio Department of Transportation released an animation depicting what traffic flow will look like once the U.S. 23 trench has been completed on the north side of Franklin County.

On Wednesday, ODOT released the animation in an attempt to help driver travel safely through the trench, which is currently under construction in the Interstate 270/U.S. 23 North Side Fix project.

The $75 million project will feature two new express lanes for U.S. 23 northbound traffic that are being constructed in the middle of the roadway.

Motorists traveling to Delaware County or points north of Northwoods Blvd. South will be able to access the trench after exiting the I-270/U.S. 23 interchange. The trench will begin just before Campus View Blvd and end at Northwoods Blvd South.

The trench, which approximately three-quarters of a mile long, will be open at the top and the lanes will sit 25 feet below the street surface.

It is the first highway project in Central Ohio to include a trench.

Construction on the trench is expected to take two years to complete.
