COLUMBUS, Ohio -

Columbus police detectives are trying to sort through the details surrounding a shooting that occurred at a west Columbus market Monday night.

Patrol officers were called to the Food Mart Express carryout located at 2714 Sullivant Avenue on a report of a shooting at about 11:44 p.m. Monday.

Arriving officers found 31-year-old Christopher Deeds with a wound to his foot. Deeds told officers he rode his bike to the market and went inside. He was wearing a ski mask at the time and told officers he had forgotten to remove it before entering the business.

The clerk, Mohannad Alhiassha, 37, told officers he believed the business was being robbed and retrieved a handgun.

Alhiassha confronted Deeds and forced him out of a rear entrance, into the parking lot. Alhiassha then fired his weapon once into the pavement. The bullet ricocheted and struck Deeds in the foot, according to police

Deeds was treated at the scene and released. He told officers he did not want to press charges, according to police.
