COLUMBUS, Ohio - A 26-year-old man dubbed as the ‘Hi-Def Hoodlum’ is listed as Columbus’ fugitive of the week.

Paul Jeffrey Waginger is accused of committing a series of a series of thefts during a two-week crime spree that occurred in 2013. Waginger is accused of evading authorities since the alleged incidents

On December 2, 2013, Waginger allegedly stole a 39-inch Samsung TV valued at $429.99 from a store at the Graceland Shopping Center in north Columbus.

On December 12, 2013, he allegedly stole a 32-inch Philips TV valued at $259.99 from a retailer in the area of Easton. He allegedly stole from the same store two days later.

In the second incident, Waginger parked his vehicle in a handicapped parking space, jumped out, grabbed a shopping cart, and entered the store, according to police reports. Approximately ten minutes later he was captured on surveillance cameras placing a Nikon digital camera valued at $599.99 and a Bright Starts baby swing valued at $79.99 in his cart. He was then seen walking out of the store.

As store security approached him, Waginger allegedly initiated an altercation. During the fight, he lost his coat, hat, and sunglasses before breaking free and fleeing. He contacted the store several hours later to ask if he could pick up his personal belongings at the lost-and-found department, according to police. His vehicle was impounded following the incident.

The next day, Waginger allegedly targeted another Easton-area retailer, stealing items valued at $393.88. One of the items included a 38-inch Vizio sound bar system.

Waginger’s past criminal record includes incarceration for drug-related felonies, breaking and entering, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, contempt of court, hit-skip, leaving the scene of an accident, and OVI.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Bill Hendrick at 614-645-8874 at the Columbus City Attorney’s Office.
