COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sources tell NBC4 that The Ohio State University intends to name a new president Thursday.

Dr. Michael V. Drake is expected to be introduced as the university's 15th president during a session of the Board of Trustees at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Drake was most recently serving as the Chancellor of the University of California Irvine, a position he has held since 2005.

OSU officials would not officially comment on the matter.

The Ohio State Board of Trustees will meet at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, followed by a news conference at 5 p.m., where Drake will presumably be announced as the next president of The Ohio State University.

According to Drake's biography at UC Irvine, he oversaw the creation of the university's new public law school and led the launch of new programs in public health, pharmaceutical science and nursing science.

Prior to that, Drake was Vice President for Health Affairs for the University of California system. He is an ophthalmologist. Drake graduated from undergrad from Stanford and received his M.D. from University of California, San Francisco.

Drake and his wife, Brenda, have two sons.
