Diverging Diamond Interchange To Open At Roberts Road & I-270

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -

The Ohio Department of Transportation says the interchange at Roberts Road and Interstate 270 will reopen on Monday night after weeks of construction. The improved interchange will be the first of its kind in the Buckeye state.

The diverging diamond interchange (DDI) cost just under $10 million in construction, according to ODOT. DDIs are designed to improve traffic flow and safety as well as reduce congestion.

"It [DDI] provides continuous free flow movement on to the ramps without you having to get in separate left turn lanes to wait to cross traffic to actually get onto the expressway," said Nancy Burton, ODOT's Public Communications Manager.

Lisa Jones is co-owner of The Cove Wellness Spa on Roberts Road. Jones says she is thrilled that the interchange is finally done.

"I'm excited for it to end! It's been a nightmare as far as clients getting here. The detour has been long. Clients have been confused. So of course people coming to appointments have been late," Jones said.

According to Burton, police officers will be on hand initially to help direct traffic.

"You have to make sure you know which lane you are in. Stay in that lane. And make sure that you watch the traffic signals," Burton said.

ODOT says the interchange will open at 7 p.m. on Monday after rush hour.

ODOT released the following graphic to explain the changes to traffic.
