Mom Charged, Accused Of Faking Son's Cancer

NEWARK, Ohio -

Just moments after she finished a supervised visit with her children Tuesday, Emily Creno was arrested on a felony charge of endangering children.

Creno, 31, of Utica, is accused of falsely claiming her 4-year-old son was suffering from terminal cancer.

Investigators said Creno sought treatment from doctors for her son for a variety of symptoms, including seizures. They said she created a Facebook page claiming her son had cancer, and soliciting fire and police uniform patches for the boy. Care packages and monetary donations poured in from around the country.

Court documents said, "officers received a letter from Nationwide Children's Hospital regarding the welfare of (the boy), age 4. According to the letter, the defendant repeatedly took (the boy) to Nationwide Children's Hospital to be seen for symptoms such as seizures and difficulty breathing.  Each time (the boy) was brought into the hospital, staff was unable to find any signs or symptoms of medical distress.  According to the letter, the action and care for her son is considered Medical Child Abuse."

"Defendant represented to others that (the boy) had cancer. The doctor that she stated was treating (the boy) for cancer denied any such treatment. As a result of these unnecessary doctors's visits, (the boy) underwent numerous procedures that were unnecessary and potentially dangerous.  Additionally, she shaved his head and told him he was going to die."

Creno's father, Carlos King of Syracuse, N.Y.  told NBC4 that the charges against his daughter are false, and that she was only going by what doctors told her.

Creno was ordered held on $50,000 bond.
