Theft Victim Shot At After Tracing Stolen Tablet To Thief

Posted: Updated:

A man injured in a shooting after he attempted to confront a suspected thief says he was lucky to walk away with just a bruise.

Columbus police officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Allison Drive on a report of a shooting at about 12:45 p.m. Monday.

According to detectives, the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between the victim and an accused thief.

The 30-year-old victim says he had been tracking his stolen Samsung tablet with a GPS system for about a month. On Labor Day, the victim says he received another hit on the GPS system, which led him to the Allison Drive home just a little over a mile from his home.

He said he had previously shared the information with Columbus police.

The victim and his friend confronted the suspect, at which time the suspect allegedly pulled a gun on the two men. The suspect fired at least one round, striking the victim in the foot.

"It went in the side of my shoe, bounded off my foot, and went out the bottom," the victim shares with NBC4. He says he was lucky to walk away with just a bruise on his foot.

He says he is upset that even after he tracked the device, he still has not retrieved his tablet.

The victim says he was also trying to retrieve his tools, seizure medication, and other electronic devices reported stolen at the same time as the tablet.

Columbus police officials were not available to comment on the incident.
