Columbus Triathlete Critical After Falling Off Bike In NY

VARICK, N.Y. -

Police say a triathlete who fell from her bicycle as she slowed down at a water station has been hospitalized in critical condition.

State police say 31-year-old Lan Lin Zhang of Columbus, Ohio, lost control of her bicycle Sunday morning at a water stop in Varick during the Musselman Triathlon. She was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The accident follows the death of a 38-year-old triathlete Saturday at the same weekend event. Michael Coyle of Rochester rode his bicycle into the back of a parked car and died from his injuries.
